How can some people claim to be Christians and support a liberal agenda?
What does it mean to be a “liberal”?
Define Liberal: Open to new behavior or opinions and willing to discard traditional values.
Hmmm… Okay, so what does the Bible say about these “new behaviors” that a liberal person might support? And furthermore, if a liberal person is “willing to discard traditional values”, what are they being exchanged for?
These desires give birth to sinful actions. And when sin is allowed to grow, it gives birth to death.James 1:15
Let’s look at a few topics that the Bible clearly addresses and see if we can answer the question on whether or not a liberal person can really be a Christian.
The Bible clearly addresses the following:
This is a short list in a long line of controversial items that liberals and conservatives have struggled to agree on for years.
What they are really debating is the systemic nature of sin. What do I mean by that?
Sin permeates our culture and today we are subject to Satan’s lies more than ever.
But when you follow your own wrong inclinations, your lives will produce these evil results; impure thoughts, eagerness for lustful pleasure, idolatry, spiritism (that is, encouraging the activity of demons), hatred and fighting, jealousy and anger, constant effort to get the best for yourself, complaints and criticisms, the feeling that everyone else is wrong except those in your own little group-and there will be wrong doctrine,Galatians 5:19-20
The topics listed above are clearly addressed in the Bible and every single one of them go against what liberals believe in today’s modern society.
The answer to the question is quite sad and very simple…
By today’s definition of what liberalism is, there is absolutely no way you can possibly be a liberal and a Christian.
A Christ follower believes in the teachings of the Bible. Period.
The Bible is the one true source of knowledge and instruction for our lives.
It is infallible. It is unchanging. It is not open to new and sinful behaviors that our culture today claims to be “okay” in the eyes of God.
Some traditions of the church have been skewed by man’s desire to make a display of God’s good work (especially in the Catholic church), but never does the Bible instruct us to discard traditional values.
If you are reading this as a liberally minded person who claims to also be a Christian, please start reading the Bible…
I am a sinful person who needs daily repentance myself, but I would never claim to follow a sick and twisted Democratic party like we have today and in the same breath talk about the truths that the Bible holds which are never changing.
I am not able to convince you with a short post about why you can’t be a liberal and a Christian at the same time, but if you are eager to learn why it is simply impossible, feel free to start off by reading about the topics I mentioned. I have a list of theses topics and many more on my blog under the List of Apples section.
I challenge you to put aside your own understanding just like I did when researching what the Bible says about these extremely important moral and ethical dilemmas that we face today.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;Proverbs 3:5
I have hope that you will find the Bible equally as encouraging as I did when it provides clarity on every single one of these items.
To end this post I wanted to disclaim that I am not saying Donald Trump or the upcoming election has anything to do with the validity of my reasoning.
For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.Romans 3:23
Donald Trump and many conservatives are just as sinful and wrong in their beliefs about what it means to be a Christian, but if you want to compare candidates on a ballot and make a decision on who you should support, it is pretty darn easy to see which of the two evils is more worthy of being in a position of power.
There is no contest. A vote for a liberal candidate is a vote in favor of Satan’s agenda. That’s an absolute and they are not ashamed of it.
A vote for a conservative is a prayer of hope. A vote for a conservative is support for the truths of the Bible to be made known in our government, laws, and the world.
